Naturalization ceremony

More than 80 new citizens took part in a naturalization ceremony on Wednesday at Augustana's Centennial Hall. The Honorable Sara Darrow, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Central Illinois District, presided over the ceremony with key remarks by Professor of English and Acting Chair of Religion Dr. Umme al-Wazedi, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen. Dr. al-Wazedi shared her experience of leaving her native Bangladesh for the opportunity of greater education and professional opportunities. She also encouraged the new citizens to form bonds with their new home communities.
